Elneny is a "complete Player" - Giroud
Olivier Giroud has given new Arsenal signing Mohamed Elneny a ringing endorsement, claiming that his
new teammate is "a complete player".
Elneny completed his move to
the Emirates from Swiss side FC Basel on Thursday and has already made a good
impression in training, according to the French striker.
“I’ve
trained with him and he’s a good player, very talented but first of all he is a
good guy - I think he will settle well into the team,” Giroud said on the Arsenal website.
“I think he’s basically
a box-to-box midfielder, so he can attack and defend, run a lot and has good
power and technique. He is quite a complete player.
The Egyptian
international could make his Gunners debut in Sunday's trip to Stoke and Giroud
is backing him to quickly adapt to the Premier League
“It always takes time to
adapt to English football because there is a lot of intensity, it is very
physical and even tactically [you must get used to it] - but I think Premier
League football will suit him well.”
After securing his move
to the Emirates this week, Elneny spoke of his delight at joining Arsene
Wenger's side.
“It is an indescribable
feeling, I am really glad of course," he said.
“Arsenal is one of the world’s
greatest teams, and I am very keen to participate positively with my new team,
God willing, and to give my best for the team and for myself.
“Arsenal is one of those
teams that everyone enjoys watching and of course I would love to play for such
a great team.
“Mr Wenger is a highly
respected manager and one of the world’s best managers. It is my honour to be
trained under his management.
“It is one the biggest
clubs in the world, I know everything about it and its players."
Elneny
has been brought in to provide competition and cover for holding midfielder
Francis Coquelin, although he can also operate slightly further forward.
The former Al Ahly man
has firmly established himself at Basel during his three seasons at the club,
picking up three Swiss Super League titles along the way.
This deal is almost
certainly the only first team signing Arsenal will do in January, with Arsene
Wenger preferring to wait until the summer to secure his other major targets.
