Luis Garcia Signs for The Centra Coast Mariners
Former Liverpool forward
Luis Garcia is back playing after signing a contract with A-League
side The Central Coast Mariners.
Garcia recently dusted
off his boots to play in a Liverpool Legends against an Australian XI, and
finding the net was clearly enough to convince him not to officially hang up
his boots despite not playing competitively since leaving the Indian Premier
League.
The Champions League
winner, who will turn 38 at the end of the season, has signed a short-term deal
to bolster Tony Walmsley’s squad until at least the end of the current
campaign, a statement read.
‘I am delighted to be
joining a club like the Central Coast Mariners. This is an exciting challenge
for me to play in the Hyundai A-League and with such a progressive club like
the Mariners,’ Garcia said.
‘I am really looking
forward to being on the Coast, meeting my fellow players, meeting the fans and
to entertain them with my style of play.
‘One of the things that
attracted me to the Club was the opportunity to share my experience with a
young playing group. I am also looking forward to playing football in one of
the most beautiful places in the world,’ Garcia added.
