Manchester United in talk with James Rodriguez and Renato Sanches
Manchester United are believed to be in talk with Real Madrid ace James Rodriguez.
Even though the Spanish giants
are under the threat of a two window transfer ban it appears they could be
prepared to sacrifice the unsettled 24-year-old Colombian international.
Rodriguez
fell out with former Bernabeu boss Rafa Benitez but relations with new manager
Zinedine Zidane are said to already be strained.
Zidane
isn’t happy with the player’s attitude in training and wouldn’t be against
Rodriguez leaving.
Significantly
super agent Jorge Mendes is looking after Rodriguez and he has been in talks with a number of
interested parties including Manchester United.
United
enjoy a good working relationship with the Portuguese fixer and have discussed
ways of trying to make the deal happen in this transfer window.
Real
Madrid who signed Rodriguez from Monaco in July 2014 for a fee of £63million
would demand a similar package for United to be successful in their designs on
the exciting player.
But there is a desire from both
clubs for something to happen and it would be a signing that would appease many
United fans who believe Louis van Gaal’s side lack flair and are too
pedestrian.
United
though who have been in regular contact with Madrid officials over their
protracted attempts to sign Gareth Bale will not entertain any talk of Spanish
international keeper David de Gea heading in the opposite direction.
United
are also in discussions with Benfica over teenage midfielder Renato Sanches.
Although the 18-year-old has a buy out clause of around £60m and Old Trafford
officials are attempting to negotiate a much lower fee and could be prepared to
loan the player back for the rest of the season.
They
know they have to move quickly with a number of top European clubs already on
the trail of Sanches.
